1 and 2 Thessalonians-A Message For Our Times
1 and 2 Thessalonians-A Message For Our Times
The book, "He Cometh," is a complete commentary on every verse of 1 & 2 Thessalonians. Clearly one of the major themes in this exposition is the Second Coming of Christ. You will find in every chapter of both epistles either a direct reference or an allusion to the Second Coming of Christ. The Church in Thessalonica is still there and they are still waiting for "His Coming." The main import of these epistles is to be prepared and to live in an atmosphere of "My world could end today and I don't want to be ashamed when I meet Him!" The true message of His Coming should produce holiness.
The message of the times in which Christ shall come carries a note of wariness. It seems there shall be a certain stupor and carelessness that pervades the day. We are warned to be on guard and not be taken unawares! Paul also warns of other conditions that will exist on that day: The man of sin, the great falling away the return to temple worship in Jerusalem (cf. 2 Thes. 2:1-17). These epistles of Paul are an essential key to the end-time puzzle and it is almost impossible to study eschatological truths (end-time events) without the inclusion of these letters of Paul.
