The Song of Solomon is read as a metaphor for the relationship between Christ and His Bride, the Church (all of us!), and this famous verse in Song 2:4 paints for us a beautiful and tender picture of Christ’s love for us.

Take a moment and picture Christ waving a banner of His love over you (that's what He’s doing right now!). It is our prayer that you would know this: this banner is a symbol and a promise that your identity is deeply rooted in His love.

In the past, royal families would fly banners above their homes to signify their identities. Likewise, Christ’s banner of love shows us who we belong to - it is a banner that gives us our identities, and makes it known to the world that we are sons and daughters of the Most High (2 Corinthians 6:18). It is a banner of protection that covers us and lets us know that “not a hair of our head will be harmed” (Luke 12:18), for we are safe in His loving arms.

When Christ waves His banner of love over our lives, not only do we take comfort in the peace that comes with knowing that we are incredibly loved, but we also rejoice in knowing that Christ has clothed us with a new and unchanging identity - His beloved child.

Let this night light be a reminder each and every day, that even in your darkest moments, and even when you fall short – His banner over you is love. When the devil feeds you lies about who you are, look up at the banner of love, and look at the One who waves it – He dances over your life, He delights in you, and most importantly, your identity is in Him, and He loves you with an everlasting love.
